About Us
The Parish of Shinfield lies due south of Reading in Berkshire, but within the boundary of Wokingham Borough Council. Wokingham itself lies five miles to the east of Shinfield. Shinfield Parish Council is the lowest level of local government and represents a community of 19,500+ spread across 6 principal locations. In the last 15 years the parish population has more than doubled.
As a Parish Council our mission is “to improve the quality of life for everyone who lives, works and travels through Shinfield Parish, both now and in the future.”

Following their successful competition for The ARC, a new public art piece in the centre of Wokingham, Shinfield Parish Council is delighted to be working in conjunction with Arts4Wokingham to bring an equally stunning installation to the parish of Shinfield.
The parish has a history of farming and in particular diary farming. In recent years there has been massive housing development and Shinfield has found a new role at the cutting edge of film and scientific research. In addition to already being the home of Shinfield Studios, the largest purpose built film studios in the UK, and the British Museum Archaeological Research Collection the parish will eventually also be home to archives from the Natural History Museum and Royal Botanical Gardens Kew.
The Parish Council operates 4 main buildings and the chosen piece of art under this project will sit alongside the council’s flagship building, School Green Centre which sits in the heart of the village of Shinfield.
